Abstract

Kitab Amhjah is one of the classical manuscripts full of Islamic intellectual values and is part of the archipelago's cultural heritage. This book contains the saga of the Prophets, from Prophet Adam (pbuh) to Prophet Muhammad SAW, which is delivered in the form of tembang macapat. This study aims to examine the interpretation of the manuscript's contents of Kitab Amhjah Sunan Drajat Lamongan, with the primary focus on content analysis that reflects conformity with the interpretation of the Qur'an. In addition, this study also aims to reveal the codicological and textological aspects of the manuscript to understand the physical structure, historical background, and authenticity of the text contained therein. In this research, the type of research used is library research with a qualitative approach. This research focuses on the Manuscripts of Kitab Amhjah and Kitab Tafsir as the primary sources, with other literature as supporting data sources. In addition, to obtain valid research data, it is possible to conduct field research to find out the condition of the manuscript, its history, and the intricacies of its existence. The findings of this study indicate that the contents of the manuscript of Kitab Amhjah Sunan Drajat contain material that is in line with the content of the interpretation of the Qur'an, especially in the interpretation of the stories of the prophets. For example, the stories of Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh). and Prophet Ismail (pbuh). Align with existing interpretations. However, there are differences, one of which lies in its presentation in the form of tembang macapat, which reflects local distinctiveness. This will be explained further in the discussion. In terms of codicology and textology, it is found that the manuscript, also known as Layang Ambiya, is currently kept in the Regional Museum of Lamongan Regency (Sunan Drajat Museum), which is located in the complex of Sunan Drajat Tomb, Drajat Village, Paciran District, Lamongan. The manuscript measures 29 x 20 cm with a thickness of 2.9 cm, has the registration number 791MG 2003, and is a grant from the tomb manager. Written in black ink on daluang paper, the manuscript consists of 302 pages (without numbering), each containing 19 lines of text in Pegon script and Javanese as tembang macapat. It narrates the life journeys of the prophets, from Prophet Adam (pbuh). to Prophet Muhammad SAW. The manuscript has no colophon, is incomplete, coverless, and bound with hemp rope. It is characterized by red ink circles at the end of the lines without illumination, although some text parts are challenging to read due to ink corrosion.
