Abstract

ABSTRACT Lubna, Khurniatu Sholikah Qurrotu Aini 2023. Research Trends on English Education Journals in Indonesia. English Department of Education Department Postgraduate Faculty State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Kediri. Advisor (I) Prof. Dr. Fathor Rasyid, M.Pd. (II) Dr. Ary Setya Budhi Ningrum, M. Pd. Keywords: trends research, areas, design, instrument The terms "trends" and "frequently used" have precise and separate definitions. Trends arise from persistent occurrences and frequent utilization. The trends were not universally adopted. This research was designed as a systematic literature review. The subject of this study was 343 English education articles from IJERE, IJOLE, and TEFLIN journals. The data analysis used content analysis to identify the content of the articles. The trend analysis in English education journals steadily increased from 2017 to 2023. It was determined that the predominant study areas from 2017 to 2020 were research methodologies in distance education and knowledge transfer. Between 2020 and 2021, the areas focused on analyzing and categorizing ideas and models. Furthermore, the prevailing patterns in 2023 indicated that educational technology. The research result showed that there were 325 articles identified in the research areas. There were 148 articles on the macro level: distance education systems and theories. There were 84 articles on the meso level: management, organization, and technology. And there were 93 articles in Micro level: teaching and learning in distance education. There were 297 articles identified in the research design used. There were 148 articles used qualitative methods, 98 articles used quantitative methods, and 51 articles used mixed methods. There were 22 research instruments identified in this research. There were 54 articles used observations, 160 articles used interviews, 56 articles used secondary or qualitative documents, 23 articles used visual media and educational research, 145 articles used questionnaire, 65 articles used tests, 7 articles used personal construct, 11 articles used role play and research, 5 articles used scale, 4 articles used reflection, 12 articles used notes, 3 articles used validation sheets, 4 article used primary data, 6 articles used rubrics, 5 articles used draft written and essay, 2 articles used word list, 3 articles used text, 1 article used assessment sheet, 2 article used peer reviewed feedback, 1 article used human instrument and 1 article used memo as a research instrument. According to the examination of trends research in English education journals, the focus of trends research for up to two years is still mostly on educational technology. Case study research designs were Indonesia's most utilized from 2017 to 2023, with 93 papers detected. One hundred forty-four papers in English education journals from 2017 to 2023 utilized questionnaires as the most employed research instruments.
