Abstract

Speaking skill is one of the important skill for students. However, some of students have low speaking skill at their speaking because many factors. Many students feel confusing and unmotivated in learning because of a monotonous teaching process. Following digital era, digital storytelling can be an alternative method for improving their speaking skill. Because, digital storytelling is considered as a nice teaching method. At this paper, the researcher used class room action research as the research design. The study takes at the MTsN 6 Kediri. Meanwhile, the subjects of the study were 43 students, the second semester of class 7G in 2017/2018 academic year. And at this research was considered successful if at least 80% of students got score at least 76. In this research there were two cycles of action research. There were four stages in each cycle. There are planning, acting, observation, and reflecting. The result shows that there are significant improvements from the result of students speaking test. The students passing grade increased from in the first cycle was 41,8% and improve to 81,6% in cycle two. The researcher finding shows that 1) Digital storytelling is the alternative to the students can learn while they listed to others 2) Digital storytelling can take out some idea or think from that at teaching learning 3) Digital storytelling boosting their learning motivation 4) Digital storytelling helps students learn through sharing, reflection and interpretation of stories 5) the individual effect is different especially in the process practice. The analysis result that the digital story telling could motivate the students, especially to improve their speaking skill. It can be concluded that using digital storytelling is effective to improve student students speaking skill. It is hoped that action research can be implemented by other researcher to achieve a better teaching and learning process.
