Abstract

Many English students’ in elementary school have difficulty to spoken in English. The reasons are they have little knowledge, confidence, environment factors that do not support them, and low motivation to learn English especially speaking skil and inappropriate technique chosen by their teacher in teaching English. SDN Cengkok is one of Elementary School in the Kabupaten Kediri which teach English as one of is subject. Speaking activity usually produces the dialogue and presents it in front of the class. Bacause there is no specific technique and method of language teaching used in the school, so the research is interest in conducting a study about teaching speaking using Think Pair Share technique for fifth grade of SDN Cengkok Tarokan Kediri. The research design of this study is collaborative classroom action research (CAR) in which the researcher was assisted by a collaborator in conducting the research. The subject of this researcher is fifth grade of SDN Cengkok. The procedure of the research consist of four main steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. To collect data , the researcher did observation and test. The instrument used in the research are observation checklist and test. The research findings indicate that the studens’ are active during the teaching and learning process. The students’ speaking skill improve after the treatment using Think Pair Share technique. The improvement is shown by the increase of the percetage of the students’ achieement in speaking test. The criterion of success of more than 65. In cycle I, the percentage of successful students’ 24%. In cycle II, the percentage of successful students’ is 71%. Based on observation checklist, the students’ activity increase from 65% in cycle I to 100% and based on observation checklist, the teacher’ the results activity increase from 96,65% in cycle I to 100%. Here in applying Think Pair Share technique for teaching speaking with puppet media, the teacher should pay attention to every students’ in the class to know the feeling, intellect, and relationship of each students’. In this case the teacher could give more attention for each students’.
