Abstract
One of the aims of learning English is to be able to communicate with each other. We know that people have different characteristics in interaction. If they want to speak well they must use polite utterance. more than teacher, the teacher has an important role to minimize the potential threat from the students interaction. In other words the teacher uses politeness. This study uses descriptive qualitative research as method. The focus of this study is to know politeness strategies used in teacher-students interaction based on Brwon and Levinson’s theory. The subject of the study is XII IPA 3 of MAN 2 Kediri. The researcher just used four strategies based on Brown and Levinson’s theory; positive politeness, negative politeness, off record, and bald on-record to analyze the data. The findings revealed that the teacher-students employed two strategies; positive politeness, and bald on-record. The teacher used these strategies for comfortable interaction.
