Abstract
One can acquire other language more than mother tongue, that is called the second language. Interest is the intrinsic factor of second language. The way the students understand second language is when the students‟ playing a game. Plants vs. Zombies is famous game with many instructions for each part of the game. This study focuses on the correlation between students‟ interest in Playing Plants vs. Zombies and their ability in understanding English instructions at MTs Negeri 3 Kediri. Plants vs. Zombies is virtual world game and categorize in simulation game, while the instruction join in there. There are 190 samples from eighth grade students from MTs Negeri 3 Kediri. Its are taken from those who like to play Plants vs. Zombies only. They answered 20 items questionnaire of students‟ interest and 20 items test of English instructions. The result of the questionnaire shows that the students level of interest in playing Plants vs. Zombies is average since the mean of all scores are 78.26. From the test, the result shows that students level in understanding English instructions is average with the mean is 72.71. Then, by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Formula SPSS ver. 21.00 for windows, it can be seen that there is an average correlation between students‟ interest in playing Plants vs. Zombies and their ability in understanding English instructions with the rxy 0.567 or 56.7 %. It means that there is a positive significant correlation between students‟ interest in playing Plants vs. Zombies and students‟ ability in understanding English instructions in the level of medium. It means when the more students‟ interest in playing Plants vs. Zombies give, the higher students‟ ability in understanding English instructions.
