Abstract

Maftuhah, Hani. 2018. A Semiotic analysis of Education Articles in The Jakarta Post , English Department, Faculty of Education, State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. Advisor: (1) Dr. Toyyibah, S.S, M.Pd. (2) Bahrudin, S.S, M.Pd. Semiotic analysis is the study about sign and meaning making. This study focuses on semiotic analysis using Pierce’s theory. There are three ways analysis of semiotic : representament, object, and interpretant. This research was conducted to investigated the meaning of education article ( titles, pictures, captions) in The Jakarta Post newspaper. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The researcher becomes the instrument of this research. This research uses some education articles in The Jakarta Post website, which have many utterances to be analyzed as the data. And to collect the data use documentation by captured image in The Jakarta Post website. The data analysis has some steps as identify, analysis, and found the meaning of education article (titles, picture, caption) and make a conclusion. The result of this research shows that 8 education articles on The Jakarta Post newspaper. The writer found the meaning for each data through semiotic analysis by Pierce theory. In conclusion, the research is know that the educational activities discussed in the educational articles relate to the development of education, and this reminds the many ways that many people out there do in order to advance education.
