Abstract

This research aimed to design and develop applications within the scope of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) with research targets in the English department in the Reading for General Information (RGI) course in semester 2. With literacy that was below standard according to the Kemendikbudristek and increased offer of technological innovation, it was important to understand the improvement in the quality of student reading. This research was to identify the application of MALL, evaluate RGI learning, and provide recommendations for designing and developing Mobile Applications based on the findings obtained. This research used the Research and Development (R&D) method from Borg and Gall (1982). This model consists of several steps that can help researchers or developers in designing, developing, and implementing a program. The steps consisted of needs assessment, plan, early product development, field test, product revision, operational test, and implementation. With a qualitative descriptive approach, data was collected through validation, interviews and questionnaires from 56 RGI English students. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis to identify relevant patterns and relationships in the research results. The research results showed that media experts, material experts, and 56 students have provided responses and input. In addition, M-Reads was supported in terms of an attractive appearance, updated material, reading tips, quizzes, good application performance, and features that helped students on their reading skills. This research concluded that it was known that the percentage of validity level criteria is 85% which indicated that M-Reads is "valid" and provided several important recommendations for RGI courses to integrate reading learning with M-Reads. These findings were expected to contribute to RGI course and spur further research further in this field.
