Abstract

ABSTRACT Keyword: Error Analysis, Prepositions, Thesis Acknowledgement. This research focused on analysis of prepositions errors in the students’ thesis acknowledgement in English Language Education at State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Thie research aims to identify the types of prepositional errors most frequently made by students and to pinpoint the sources of these errors. As grammatical errors, particularly those related to prepositions, are commonly found in students' writing, the researcher has undertaken a more specific analysis of prepositional errors within students' written compositions." This research is a descriptive-qualitative study. The data of this research were 15 thesis acknowledgent year 2018-2020 in English Language Educaion at State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Collecting the data, the researcher analyzes it by using Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay (1982). This study used preposition error classification proposed by Azar (1989). The researcher classified the errors into the source of errors, using Jack C. richard’s theory. The finding shows that the students in writing thesis acknowledgement still made some errors in their composition. The total number of error were found by the researcher is 14. Besides that, it was found that the dominant type of error is misformation error which has 9 errors. Meanwhile after analyzing the data, the researcher finds three sources of errors which cause the students’ errors includes false concept hypothesized, ignorance of rule restriction and incomplete aplication of rules. False concept hypotesized happen as the result of the faulty comprehension of distinctions in the targel language. While, Ignorance of rule restrictions happen when the students fail observe the restrrictions of existing structures, that is, the application of rules to context where the do not apply. In otherhand, students did mistakes cause of their lack of communication strategies because they were hard to transfer idea by using English sentence.
