Key Words: Duolingo, Vocabulary mastery, Teaching Vocabulary is a basic competency that must be achieved or learned by students in acquiring other competencies such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening. To communicate well, students need to have an adequate vocabulary because many meanings of new words are stressed very often. It is very difficult for student to master other competencies without good mastery and understanding of vocabulary. The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of using duolingo in vocabulary mastery. “There is a significant influence on the use of Duolingo in teaching vocabulary to tenth grade students at SMK Pawyatan Daha 1 Kediri”. This research uses This quasi-experimental study investigates the impact of instructional methods, specifically Duolingo and PowerPoint, on the academic performance of tenth-grade students at SMK Pawyatan Daha 1 Kediri, Kediri, during the second semester of the academic year 2022/2023. The study comprised 50 students, divided into an experimental group X-AKL 1 exposed to Duolingo and a control group X-MPLB 1 instructed with PowerPoint. The research employed a pre-test and post-test design to measure the students' academic performance. The data were collected and subsequently analyzed using Analysis of Covariance ANCOVA in SPSS 25. The analysis aimed to explore the impact of instructional methods while controlling for pre- existing differences among the groups. Preliminary findings indicate provide a brief summary of the main results, suggesting noteworthy differences in academic performance between the Duolingo and PowerPoint groups. The study contributes to the educational field by shedding light on the effectiveness of these instructional methods in enhancing student learning outcomes. The result showed that mean pre-test in experimental class was of 64.00 and the control class of 56.00. Apart from that, the average post-test score for the experimental class was 72.00 and the control class was 67.00. The result of ANCOVA showed that the significant value is .028 (p<α 0.05). It can be concluded that using duolingo is effective in vocabulary mastery for tenth-grade students at SMK Pawyatan Daha 1 Kediri because the use of technology in teaching and learning was simple, practical, and attractive so that thelearning process was interesting.
