Abstract

Motivation plays important role for students. Because motivation give big effect to students in learning English, it help students develop te achievement. Many research studies on students’ motivation in learning English. This research also study the students’ motivation in learning English. The aimed of his study is to know what level of the students’ motivation in learning English, is t high, medium, or low, and also to know the correlation between students’ motivation and students’ English achievement. The method of this study is quantitative research. The subject of this study are 171 students of first grade students at Senior High School 1 Purwoasri Kediri. This research uses questionnaire as instrument to collect the students’ motivation data consist of 28 items,then analyze the data through computing into SPSS, and documen analysis of students’ middle test value. The finding presented that first grade students motivation generally medium. It can be seen that the students’ motivation intensity got 77.2 % in medium categories, 75.4% students’ achievement motivation in medium categories, 67.3% students’ intrinsic motivation in medium categories, and 71.3% students’ extrinsic motivation in medium categories. In short, overall the students’ motivation level in this study is medium. For the correlation this research conclude that there is correlation between students’ motivation and students English achievement, and the significance value shows 0.002, means that it is low correlation. So the correlation between two variables in this study is low positive correlation.
