Abstract

Speaking is complicated skill which the students must understand about vocabulary, grammar, and other components to increase students‟ speaking skill. In teaching learning process the students make a communication with the lecturers when giving the materials. The lecturers may give oral corrective feedback to correct students‟ mistakes. So, the students also can prefer which oral corrective feedback types that they like . The use of good speaking between lecturer and students is one aspect which give good atmosphere in the classroom. It becomes reason why the students understand about the materials because they can communicate each other well. Every meeting in the classroom, the lecturer gives feedback to the students about their mistakes and the students also have the preferences about the lecturers‟ feedback have given to them. So, it is a reason, the researcher studied the students‟ preferences and lecturers‟ use to oral corrective feedback. The objectives of this research are to investigate the most preferable type of oral corrective feedback chosen by the students and to investigate the most dominant oral corrective feedback type used by the lecturers. The researcher used survey research design. The researcher conducted this research to investigate the most preferable type of oral corrective feedback chosen by the students and to investigate the most dominant oral corrective feedback type used by the lecturers. The researcher studied about preferences and measuring the percentages of the oral corrective feedback used by lecturers and students‟ preferences to it so, applying the survey research design is appropriate for this study. The subjects of this research were two lecturers and 140 students in second semester at Department of English Language Education. The instruments of this research were data recorder for collect the lecturers‟ data and questionnaires for collect the students‟ data. The result of the research shown that the most preferable type of oral corrective feedback chosen by the students was recast correction. it has 65.5%. It was not in line with the result of the most dominant oral corrective feedback type used by the lecturers was explicit. It has 46.15%. The next researcher should help to identify the reason why the lecturers used explicit and the students prefer recast correction.
