Abstract

The study is intended to analyze the content and literary elements of William Blake’s poems. There are two collection are popular in William Blake’s work. Those collection are “Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience” that produces many poems in each collection. “Songs of Innocence” produce twenty eight poems, and “Songs of Experience” produce twenty six poems. But, from there are some poem that has same title either in innocence version or in experience version. So, in this research the writer wants to analyze the differences content and literary elements of the poems of the same title found “Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience”. The writer uses the descriptive qualitative in this research because she tries to describe the content and literary elements of William Blake’s poems that related to “Songs of Innocence and “Songs of Experience, and to get conclusion about the problem that being learned based on the various information that related to the problem. The object of this research is about poem. The writer chooses poems of William Blake that found in “Songs of Innocence and “Songs of Experience” collection that showing the contrary states of human soul. The result of this research is there are differences in content of William Blake’s poem in two collection are Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience that showing “the two contrary states of human soul”. Although those poem there are some poem has same title, but they has differences in illustrating content. Beside that, those poem also has different literary devices that able to make them different to others. Literary elements are about theme, diction, point of view, moral message. Where all of them are the elements that can make those poem different from one collection to the other collection although, they has same title.
