Abstract

The teacher of Ma Ma’arif 8 Ihyaul Ulum Lamongan still had problems in finding a good strategy to improve the students’ speaking skill. That it is why this study is carried out to improve the speaking skill of second year students of MA Ma’arif 8 Ihyaul Ulum Lamongan, because in this school the students’ speaking skill is still low. In order to answer the problem, the writer sets the study in classroom action method. This research used the cooperative group investigation method to improve the speaking skill of second students of Ma Ma’arif 8 Ihyaul Ulum Lamongan. The Subject of this study is the second year students of MA Ma’arif 8 Ihyaul ulum Lamongan. For analyzing data, the writer used the students’ evaluation result, students’ activities and the implementation of cooperative group investigation to improve speaking skill. For the research procedure, the writer uses two cycles, each cycle consists of four steps include planning, acting, observing and reflecting. And for research instrument, the researcher used the test to know the students’ problem, observation used to obtain the data about the students’ activities and the students’ achievement speaking skill during teaching learning process, interview is used to get the data about the students’ problem and the result of the students before using cooperative group investigation as learning method and questionnaire is used to know the students’ problem in English teaching learning process The result of the teaching learning process after using cooperative group investigation increasing, this is can see from the result of students’ speaking skill and students’ achievement. The result of students’ speaking skill in cycle 1 64.70% become 94.11% in cycle 2 and the result of students’ achievement in cycle 1 74.23 % become 84.11 % in cycle 2.
