Abstract

The title this research is “Teaching Reading Narrative Text Using Attribute Webs Strategy for the Eight Grader of SMPN 5 Kediri”. The objective of this research is to know whether there was the effectiveness of teaching reading narrative text by using attribute webs strategy in improving the students reading narrative text to the eight grade students of SMPN 5 Kediri. To achieve the purpose of this study, the writer design was quasi-experimental research. The subject of this research was the students at eight grade students of SMPN 5 Kediri in the second semester in the academic year 20015/2016 that was consist of 60 students. The subjects are divided into two classes, VIII-C class as experimental group and VIII-D class as control group. VIII-C class will be taught by using attribute webs strategy, and VIII-D class as control group that will be taught without using attribute webs strategy. To collect the data the writer used the pre-test and post-test at experimental and control group. The result of the tests was analyzed by ANCOVA though SPSS 21.0. Based on the result of the test administered in experimental and control group, the mean score of pre-test at experimental group is 63.40 and the mean score at control group is 64.27. Meanwhile, the result of the post-test from both of the group is 81.07 at experimental group and 69.87 at control group. The result of ANCOVA from the SPSS program shows that the distribution of dependent variable is normal that is p (.284)> a (.05). Then the Homogeneity variance of both groups is equal that is p (.215) > a (.05). There is no interaction between pre-test and group, as evidence by (.284)> a (.05). Then there is relationship between post-test and pre-test, it is shown by (.935) > a (.05). In the test between subject effect, the significant is 0.000 is less than 0.05. from the result, it has enough evidence to reject the null hyphothesis. So, it can be conclude that using attribute webs strategy is effective in teaching reading narrative to the eight graders at SMP N 5 Kediri.
