Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate junior high school students’ perception toward the use word wall in learning vocabulary in MTs. Ma’arif Bakung. In order to achieve the objective of this research, the researcher design a survey research. The research design was descriptive quantitative design. It was done by sharing the questionnaire to 181 students of eighth class in MTs. Ma’arif Bakung. After sharing the questionnaire, and then was interviewing random students. Then, the result of questionnaire was concluded by using Microsoft Excel. For support the questionnaire, the researcher also daring interview two randomly students in learning vocabulary. In the result of finding, most of the students agree and that word wall is use full to help them in improving their vocabulary mastery. Based on the interview the students feel that the word wall needs some wide space. The reason why this fact can shows up might be because the students feel that the word wall is single use only. In the other words, whenever they want to add more words, they need to concerning the size of the word wall board. If they put it on the wall in their classroom or private room at home, they should make a new word wall again whenever the old one is full. It might be happened since the students’ feel sad to throw away the old words and replace it with the new vocabularies. Based on the solving the students’ problem related to the wide space need of the word wall has actually tried to be solved by the students themselves. Based on the interview, they say that they will write down the previous word on the word wall in a book as something like a vocabulary record of theirs. The students may have the solution because they feel that the notes can be their back-up whenever they forget the vocabularies they have memorized. It can be concluded that in learning vocabulary in MTs. Ma’arif Bakung is more dominant in use word wall because it is more effective and needed in learning vocabulary.
