Abstract

Anxiety is the one obstacle experienced by students when doing presentation in front of the other or in front of the class. If the students have low anxiety in presentation, this will be good for the performance of students. There are many presentation of the students, one of the presentation that English Department students must do is about presenting their thesis proposal. Therefore the purpose of this research is to analyse the factors that affecting students’ anxiety in presenting a thesis proposal for English Department students of IAIN Kediri and the way students used to overcome the anxiety. The research design in this research is qualitative descriptive, which the result of this research are presented in the simple table with the explanation. The data collection is using in the form of online questionnaire and interview. The research subject is 51 students of the IAIN Kediri. And also, the researcher use 6 students for the interview. The result shows that; (1) The anxiety of students in thesis proposal presentation is existed with level of strongly exist (77.3%). (2) The factors affecting students anxiety in presenting thesis proposal: communication apprehension; test�anxiety; fear of negative evaluation; lack of confidence; fear of making mistake in pronounciation; having a bad internet access; lack of preparation and less of mastering material. (3) The ways to overcome the anxiety when presenting thesis proposal are take a deep brearth, have a positive mindset, studying the material, practicing to present before presentation and well-prepared either from self�preparation or material and preparing equipment for presentation.
