Abstract

Writing is one of the important language skills and should be taught besides the other skills. Writing is regarded as a productive skill aim to helping the students in expressing their idea written. In the writing learning process, the researcher found many students are still low in writing. Most of students have difficulty finding ideas to write and cannot develop their own idea when writing. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to improve writing skill by using picture series at the eleventh grade students of MA Al- Huda Kediri. The design of this research was classroom action reseach (CAR). The subject is the students of eleventh grade at MA Al-Huda Kediri. The samples are 25 students in XI class, which consist of 7 male students, and 18 female students. This research was conducted in one cycle that consist of test 1 and test2. In the cycle was applied picture series in learning writing. The results of the research showed that used picture series in the teaching and learning process of writing was believed to be effective to improve the students’ writing skills of eleventh grade at MA Al-Huda Kediri. The students’ writing problems in content, vocabulary, language use can be reduced by using picture series in the teaching and learning process of writing. Moreover it made the students more enthusiastic to learn and also could develop their own ideas when writen. For the students’ writing scores were measured quantitatively by comparing the mean score of test 1 and test 2 in cycle 1. The result showed that the average score of the students’ writing increased from 58,9 in the test 1 to 83,8 in the test 2. And the results of the students who got score least 77 were 8% from test 1, and were 88% from test 2 in the cycle 1. Based on finding above, the researcher concludes that picture series was effective for used in teaching writing skill to eleventh grade students of MA Al-Huda Kediri.
