Abstract

Writing is one of the four language skills that is very substantial to learn. It is the hardest skill to be learnt, because it needs hard thinking at the same timeto produce words, sentences, and paragraph.The difficulty lies not only in organizing and generating ideas, but also in translating these ideas into interesting text. The appropriate technique in teaching writing is going to help students to improve writing skill.The aim of this study is to know the effectiveness of clustering technique on the students’ writing of descriptive text at the MTsN 6 Nganjuk. The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was quasi experimental research. The population of this study was seventh grade students of MTsN 6 Nganjuk in the academic year of 2019-2020. The sample of this study was two classes from the same population that consist of 30 students for the research. Students of VII-H class as the experimental class, whereas students of VII-I as the control class. The analysis has shown that the data was normally distributed. The result of ANCOVA showed thatthe significant value was p (0.000) < α (0.05). It means that there was enoughevidence to reject the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis.The researcher can be found that this technique can help students in prewriting to prepare vocabulary, generate ideas and expand the ideas they have obtained. As for the teacher, researcher hopes that for an english teacher would give better teaching method for students during the teaching and learning process to make the students more interest and enjoy the lesson. In this way, students are going to have easy way to improve their writing and also have better skill. Based on the findings above, the researcher conclude that clustering technique is an effective technique in teaching writing skill on descriptive text at the MTsN 6 Nganjuk.
