Abstract

Speaking is one of the skills that people should be mastered. Students with good in speaking are usually confident in their willingness to communicate (WTC). They will be confident to speak up with another person. Students’ willingness to communicate not only influence speaking skill, but it also influences all of skill. WTC refers to the probability of engaging in communication when the opportunity is given. Teaching English in Indonesia focuses on the ability of communication of students. Indonesian students basically have a high desire to learn and speak English, but this desire is not accompanied by language skill ability. It can be seen from the result of the English Proficiency level (API) that Indonesian English proficiency is still low. From this problem, the researcher wants to know the relationship between willingness to communicate and speak fluency and the accuracy among the fourth semester students’ of the English Department of IAIN Kediri.. The researcher used a quantitative approach with a correlation research design. The population of this study is all the fourth semester students of the English Department in IAIN Kediri. The samples were taken from each class of the fourth semester of the English Department in IAIN Kediri. In this study, the process of taking the sample was using simple random sampling. In collecting data, researchers used a questionnaire and a speaking test for the instruments. After the researcher collected the data, the researcher analyzes the data by using linear regression to find out the correlation of speaking test and the WTC Questionnaire. The result of this study show that there is significant relationship between WTC and speaking fluency, with the result of t test (0.000) < α (0.05) so Ho1 is rejected and Ha1 is accepted. For the value of R square of WTC and Speaking fluency is 0.279 meaning that the effect of WTC for speaking fluency is 27.9% the result also show that there is a significant relationship between WTC and Speaking accuracy with t test result (0.000) < α (0.05) concluded that Ho2 is rejected and Ha2 is accepted. The value of R square of WTC and Speaking accuracy is 0.212 meaning that the effect of WTC for speaking accuracy is 21.2%. So it can be said that the higher the score of Students’ WTC, then the higher the score in Students’ speaking fluency and accuracy.
