Abstract

Reading comprehension is an active comprehension process, which depends not only on the learner comprehension skills, but also on their experience learner knowledge in English. The humorous story is strictly a work of art, high and delicate art. This research aims at improving the students’ reading achivements in narrative text by using humorous story. The subject of this research was second grade at SMK Mahrusiyah 2019/2020 academic year. This research of this study was conducted by using classroom action research. The data used in this research at the result of the pretest to know pre-test and post-test, interview sheet, and observation sheet. The result of this research showed that the students’ improvement of reading comprehension in narrative texts can be seen from their achievements in tests. The first criteria to achieve is 75% students of class achieve the score greater or equel to 75 of range that lies from 0-100. It means that the students were considered to be successful if they were able to achieve a final score 75 in the range of 0-100. and the criterion to achive of the avarange score at least 75. The students’ mean score in the pre-research was 60,5 or 30% students achieved the minimum standard score (KKM). The students’ mean score in the cycle 1 was 70,5 or 50% students achieved the minimum standard score (KKM) and the students’ mean score in the cycle 2 was 76,5 or 75% students achieved the minimum standard score (KKM). It showed that humorous stories could improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts. Therefore, the writer takes a conclusion that this humorous stories is appropriate to be used by the students in XI TKJ A class of SMK Al Mahrusiyah Kediri because they enjoy the lesson and understand them by their own.
