Abstract

Speaking is important skill in English language because this activity requires attention and understand more. In Indonesia English is as a foreign language. However, this research is proven to be ineffective since the student also find difficulties speaking activities. The researcher get information that many students who learn English still have problems communicating with others because the method used to learn is not effective in learning English. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of reciprocal teaching strategy on the speaking skill of the students of the SMAN 6 Kediri. The researcher uses a quasi-experimental design with the treatment held in three meetings, 2 x 45 minutes for each class. For research design the researcher uses a pre-test to determine students’ speaking abilities before treatment and posttest to determine students’ speaking abilities after treatment. The Population of this research is the students of class XI SMAN 6 Kediri. Sample were taken two classes, one class as an experimental class was class XI MIPA 3 consisting of 34 students and the other class as a control class was class XI MIPA 2 consisting of 35 students. In collecting data, researchers used instruments in pre-test and post-test. Test instrument speak in oral form. After the researcher collect the data pre-test and posttest, then analyzed the data using SPSS 25.0. The result of this research, the data was normally distributed. It was proved by the Shapiro-Wilk Test, showing that (0.288)> α (0.05) for the experimental group and p (0.071)> α (0.05) for the control group. The Levene’s Test shows that the experimental and control group has the same ability. The result is p (0.082)> α (0.05). Then, the homogeneity regression shows that p (0.133)> α (0.05). Means there is no interaction between covariate and independent variables. The last assumption is the output of test of linier relationship covariate and dependent variable showed that the significant value was .000 which is lower than α (0.05). It means that there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis. It can be concluded that Reciprocal Teaching Strategy is an effective teaching technique to improve the students’ speaking skills.
