Abstract

Vocabulary is a component of the word to learn considered to be almost every aspect of language knowledge. In the learning languages, the teacher starts teaching vocabulary. Numbered Head Together ( NHT) is a technique used to develop students' potential in learning English vocabulary and motivate students so that they are interested in learning English without feeling bored because the techniques used can make students active. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of Numbered Head Together techniques in Teaching Vocabulary at the fourth grade students of Ban Huailuek Krabi Thailand. This research uses a quasi-experimental design with the treatment held in three meetings, 2 x 45 minutes for each class. This design uses a pre-test posttest to determine students' English vocabulary abilities before treatment and after treatment. The population of this research is the students of class IV Ban Huailuek Elementary School Krabi, Thailand. Samples were taken two classes, one class as an experimental class was IV / 1 consisting of 30 students and the other class as a control class was IV / 2 consisting of 30 students. In collecting data, the researcher used instruments in pre-test and post-test. Test instruments Teaching Vocabulary in test multiple choice form. After giving a post-test, the researchers then analyzed the data using SPSS 21.0. The results of this research showed that the data are normally distributed. It was proven by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test that p is. (0.634) and than for pretest of the experimental group, p (61.60) for pre-test of the control group, p (54.83) for post-test of the experimental group, and p (88.30) for post-test of the control group (73.83). Those were higher than α (0.05). The Levene’s test showed p (0.068) > α (0.05). The homogeneity regression showed that p (0.102) > α (0.05). It means there is no interaction between covariate variables and independent variables. Then, the result of ANCOVA showed that the significant value p is (0,000) < α (0.05). It was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis. Based on the above findings, the researcher concludes that Numbered Heah Together is an effective technique for Teaching vocabulary.
