Abstract

Language plays an important role in improving students’ knowledge. English studies aim to improve students language skills. Therefore, learning English should consists of four aspects of skill. They are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. English is taught in all schools in Indonesia. One of them is in SMK PGRI 1 Kediri. Writing is one of the most difficult productive skills that require special skills. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out How Mind Mapping technique improve students’ writing skill of the tenth grade of SMK PGRI 1 Kediri. The research design of this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this study is students of the tenth grade SMK PGRI 1 Kediri, the class which consist of 31 students. The researcher used instruments to collect data. There are writing test, scoring rubric, observation checklist, and the criteria of success. The researcher gave a treatment to students and after that conducted a test and the results of the test were calculated using scoring rubric. And the results of the test can be concluded using criteria of success. The criteria of success achieved if at least 80% students get score minimum 73, based on minimal mastery level criterion (KKM) from the English teacher. In the preliminary test, the students’ success got 25% (4 students), the mean score is 56,38. Additionally, in cycle I the students’ success was 56% (16 students), the mean score is 70,16. Furthermore, in cycle II the students’ success was 87,09% (27 students), the mean score is 79,70. It means that the criteria of minimum score have reached. Thus, it can be concluded mind mapping technique was successful to improve students’ writing skill at the tenth grade of SMK PGRI 1 Kediri.
