Abstract
Speaking English is the most important aspect that students should have in school. It is important for daily life, for example introducing Indonesia abroad by using English, etc. On the other hand, speaking is one of the most difficult skills that students face as students are shy, afraid of making mistakes, and not confident when they want to try to speak. Therefore, teachers need strategies to help solve their problems so that all students lbare able to master speaking skills. This research bis aimed to find out : (1) What are the students’ problems in learning English speaking and the causes corresponding ? (2) What are the teacher’s strategies to help the students solve their problems? This research used case study method. The participants of this study were ten students of the class with a major in banking of the tenth grade and an English teacher who taught the class of SMK Bhakti Mulia. The data collection techniques was observation and interview. Meanwhile, data analysis used in this research is data reduction, presentation or presentation of data, and drawing conclusions. The result shows that the students faced some problems in speaking English. The problems that students obtained in learning English speaking consisted of psychological problems and language problems. Mostly students facing the psychological problems are afraid to make mistakes, shy when their friends looking bat them, and insecure about speaking. For language problems, limitedness of vocabulary was faced by most of the students. Then, the teacher has some strategies to help solve their speaking problems, there are drilling strategies and discussion strategies. So, strategies which she applied were providen to be effective. She provided evidences of the success of her students.
