Abstract

Writing skill is important in this era. The people could show their ideas using writing. Writing can be used to give information, to show the idea, and for documenting a meaningful memory. The writing skill is better to learn in school because the students have more time to practice writing. But many students cannot write in English language well because the focus of learning English in many schools in Indonesia is reading, Reading is the English skill which is 75% examined in National examination. This research is based on the needs to improve the students’ writing skill by using Concept Sentence Method. The researh applies a Classroom Action Research (CAR). Conducting the research, the researcher collaborated with the English teacher in observing the implementation of Concept Sentence Method. The research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was conducted in two meetings. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade of science one of MAN Prambon Nganjuk. The research instruments are test, observation checklist, and scoring guide. In addition, the criteria of success are considered to be reached when 75 % students get score 75 minimally. The findings of the research indicate that concept sentence method is succesfull to improve the students’ writing skill. It can be seen in the percentage of the students that passed in the writing test. The percentage in the cycle 1 is 56,5%, there were 13 students from 23 students passed the test. And the percentage in cycle 2 is 86,9 %, there are 20 students passed the test. It gave evidence that the research is successful.
