Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Dr. Toyyibah , S.S., M. Pd., (II) Drs. Agus Edi W. M. Pd. Keywords : Writing, Teacher Strategies, Short Stories In the context of English Language Teaching (ELT), teachers need to teach English which is relevant to the student’s current situation and the teachers should find good strategies in teaching in the class. Writing is a skill to organize thoughts and writer ideas that are often performed in daily life. Writing is not a skill that can be acquired by people naturally. Students face many challenges when writing. The use of short stories, especially in the classroom, provides students with opportunities to learn new vocabulary and different writing styles Strategy is important because the resources available to achieve these goals are usually limited In this study, researcher only focused on teachers’ strategies in Writing using short stories at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Kediri. The research approach of this study is descriptive qualitative approach. This study interprets and describes data related to the current situation, attitudes and views that occur in a society, the conflict between two or more circumstances, the relationship between variables that arise, the differences between existing facts and their influence on a condition, and so on. The research will be conducted at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Kediri. The subjects of the research are English teachers of SMA Negeri 4 Kota Kediri To collect this data the researcher used an observation guide (checklist) and key instruments by the researcher. The result of the research in teaching learning narrative text using short stories was succesful. The teacher and the students’ activity very well, the teacher expalined the material and did the activity in the class was appropriate with the lesson plan. All the activity in first and second meeting were doing well. The short stories is interesting media for the students always payed to attention the material and they will feel excited and fun when they learn in the class. Short stories make the students easier to write, especially in narrative text. It was supported by the observation conducted in two meetings and the data from the questionnaire and interview that the researcher did.
