Abstract
ABSTRACT Atmadja, D.D. 2021. An Analysis of Translation Techniques Used in The Subtitle of Mulan’s Utterances in Mulan Movie. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Dr. Mukhammad Abdullah, M.Ag. (II) Dr. Fathor Rasyid, M.Pd. Keywords: Subtitle, Movie, Translation Technique Movies can be a great resource to motivate people to learn English. When they watch the film, they can learn some of the words and phrases used in the film and improve their target language. now movies can be watched legally through platforms on the internet, such as VIU, Netflix, Iflix, and others. one of them is disney hotstar. The purpose of this research is to analysis translation techniques that used by the translator in translating English to Indonesian towards Mulan’s Utterances in "Mulan" movie on Disney Hotstar. The movie is translated by professional translator Nazaret Setiabudi This research combines qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative method is used to identify the techniques used by translators, while quantitative method is used to compile results by presenting simple calculations of percentages. The data which analyzed is Mulan’s utterances. There are 163 utterances by Mulan. The results of the research showed that there are four translation techniques applied out of eight translation procedures by Newmark. four translation techniques are 54 cases of Word-for-word Translation or (33,13%), 55 cases of literal translation or (33,74%), 1 case for Idiomatic Translation or (0,61%), 53 cases for Communicative Translation or (32,52%).
