Abstract

Happiness at work is a positive psychological condition that contributes to teacher performance and the quality of learning. This condition is influenced by perceived organizational support and job satisfaction, particularly among private school teachers whose welfare depends on foundation-based policies. Kediri City has the highest number of private schools in East Java, making organizational support a crucial determinant of teacher well-being. Previous research indicates that POS and job satisfaction affect happiness at work; however, few studies have examined the mediating role of job satisfaction within the educational context. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of POS on happiness at work, with job satisfaction as a mediating variable, among teachers of SMK Pawyatan Daha 1 and 3 Kediri. This quantitative research employed a typical-performance approach and survey method. A total of 83 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. The research instrument used was a Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using regression and mediation tests based on Baron and Kenny’s method through SPSS 26. Validity and reliability tests indicated that all items were valid (r > 0.220) and reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.81). The t-test results show that Perceived Organizational Support significantly affects Happiness at Work (t = 8.470; p = 0.000), Perceived Organizational Support significantly affects Job Satisfaction (t = 10.577; p = 0.000), Job Satisfaction significantly affects Happiness at Work (t = 4.929; p = 0.000), and Perceived Organizational Support significantly affects Happiness at Work through Job Satisfaction (t = 2.474; p = 0.015). The coefficient of determination (R²) is 0.593, indicating that 59.3% of the variation in Happiness at Work can be explained by POS and Job Satisfaction. In conclusion, Perceived Organizational Support has a positive and significant effect on Happiness at Work through Job Satisfaction. This study contributes empirical evidence to the field of industrial/organizational psychology and enhances previous research regarding factors that influence happiness at work.
