Lutfiah, Siti. 2015. Improving The Skill of The Second Graders of MTsN Ngronggot in Writing Recount Text by Using Guiding Questions Technique. Thesis, State Collage to Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. Advisors: (1) Dr. ArySetyaBudhi Ningrum, M.Pd (2) Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd. Key Words: Guiding Questions, student's writing skill, recount text. In English, there are four skill that should be mastered by students, they are listening, reading, speaking and also writing. Writing becomes most difficult ability in English. However, writing is one of the most difficult skills to be mastered. In the preliminary that was conducted before doing the real research, the researcher found that the student ability in their writing was low and still in under of SKM (75); most students were passive in the learning and teaching process. Then the researcher start to plan the real research. This research was intended to find out whether guiding questions technique can improve students' writing skill or not. The research was conducted at MTsN Ngronggot. The subject of this research was the students of VIII class at that school. The research design employed in this study is classroom action research. In conducting the research, the researcher designs some instruments to get the data. They are: a) Test. The test is to know students' writing skill and to see the progress of their writing ability, b) Observation checklist. Observation checklist is to know the activities in the teaching learning process at MTsN Ngronggot. The result of this research can be seen from the percentage of the students achieving the score greater than before. In preliminary study, the percentage successfull is 20%, it means that just 6 students pass the exam. Cycle 1, in the first meeting the percentage successful is 40%, and in the second meeting the percentage successful is 63%. It means that the students score were inproved. Cycle 2, in the first meeting the percentage successful is 77%, and in the second meeting the percentage successful is 83% students pass the written text. It mean that guiding questions technique to improve students' skill in writing recount text in cycle 2 was successful.
