Abstract

The students of BEC Pare are speaking English both inside and outside class moreover the students in TC program. They are speaking English when they enter the campus of BEC. The students are non-native learners so they often ignore some mistakes they did on speaking English. It is because of their native language involvement in speaking English without realizing. This thesis discusses a problem. That is to know the kinds of interference which the students of BEC have on speaking English. The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative. For this research, the data are collected by recording the students’ speaking using a recorder, cell phone and a note in a notebook, observation and interview. The data which are collected are analyzed using contrastive analysis comparing the rule of native language with the target language learned by the foreign language learners. The subject of the research is focused on the students of TC program in a year of 2012 of BEC Pare who are speaking English both inside and outside of class. Based on the result, this study states that there are four kinds of interference on students’ speaking English. They are structural level, phonological level, lexical level and morphological level of interference. By showing this research, we can understand that we must get interference errors in learning the foreign language or the target language in order that we have to learn about sociolinguistics more in mastering it.
