Abstract

Listening is one of the four important skill in learning English. Listening is the key to all effective communication, without the ability to listen effectively messages are easily misunderstood, communication breaks down and the sender of the message can easily become frustrated or irritated. The researcher found that many students can’t understand what are some speaker said. Here, the researcher has a media to solve this problem. By using this media, the researcher hopes that the students can enjoy to learn listening and have a good result in listening. The media that is used is PODCAST. Therefore, this final project is done to find out the result; Do the students taught by using PODCAST Media have better achievements than those who are not taught by using PODCAST media at the 1st grade students of SMKN 2 Kediri. This final project is a study to increase listening ability by using PODCAST as a media in the first grade students of SMKN 2 Kediri in academic year 2016/ 2017. This design of this research is quasy experimental. The researcher takes two groups as the research sample. The group are taken from class X AK3 and X AK4 as experimental and control group, and each of those groups consist of 38 students. While class X AP1 as group that is given try-out before doing pre-test and the class consists of 38 students. After giving try-out (multiple choices, 60 questions), the researcher analyzed the result of the test and found 25 valid and reliable questions. Therefore, the researcher can use the result of try-out test as the pre-test and post-test that will be given to experimental and control group. After giving pre-test, the researcher giving some treatments to the experimental group by using PODCAST media in listening class, while the control group does not get it. Then, the researcher gives post-test to both of groups in order to know the difference result between two groups. From the post-test, the researcher finds out the different result from both of two groups. The mean score of experimental group in post test is 79.2632 and the mean score of control group is 62.3158. Then, the result of ANCOVA reveals that the result is significant p (0.000) < α (0.05). It means that there is enough evidence to reject null hypothesis, then the alternative hypothesis is received. In conclusions, PODCAST media is effective to be applied in teaching listening.
