Abstract

Listening is considered as the most difficult skill for language learners to master, especially for EFL learners. In this modern era, there are some media that can be used for teacher to help them for improving their listening skill. The media is audiobook. Audiobook is a book or story which is read by professional narrators using the highest quality of recording technology, thus with audiobook the students can listen to the correct pronunciation and also listen to the variant accent. The objective of the study is to investigate whether the use of audiobook have better achievement than the students who are taught with convensional method. This study used quantitative approach with quasi experimental design in the form of non-randomized control group, pretest-posttest design. The population of the research is all the student’s eight grade at MTs Sunan Ampel Pare Kediri consist of 157 students, the sample of this research is class VIII A consist of 33 students and VIII B consist of 33 students. The data collected through post test from experimental and control classes were analyzed by using independent sample T-test with SPSS Windows 16.0. The findings showed significant differences between the result of post-test from experimental and control class. From statistical calculation, of T-test showed that the Sig. Was 0.000, it was smaller than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. And it could be concluded that there was any significant difference between experimental class (using Audiobook) and control class (without using Audiobook). The use of Audiobook is effective on student’s listening skill at MTs Sunan Ampel Pare Kediri. In other words, the use of Audiobook can be alternative media to teach listening.
