Abstract

The education curriculum of Indonesia is the continuation of Netherland colonizer’s curriculum, that created Indonesian as the political tool. It means that Indonesian has been created as servant in such a vocational education. Even the researcher know that the main purpose of university is now to produce competent employee, the researcher thinks that education of Indonesia should be better than just producing some great employees. It will be great for Indonesis if taking an example of the curriculum of advanced countries, named Liberal Arts. Liberal Arts education is very needed for education world because world gets faster changes. It liberates human as liberated person that free to be generalist, not only specialist. Every professions need criticism and large imagination, not only narrow-minded thinking. It has been used at the past as the paradigm of Muslim Intellectuals just like Ibnu Sina and Al-Kindi. The research is intended to know about the curriculum concept of Liberal Arts education. One of university that applies the curriculum is Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) South Tangerang. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The informants of this research consists of two persons, the chief of Liberal Arts Research Institute and the Liberal Arts lecturer of UPJ. The lecturer become the confirmer of the first informant statements. The observation and interviews took place in sector 7 of Bintaro, South Tangerang, Banten. The result of this research is the whole curriculum concept of Liberal Arts education at UPJ South Tangerang. The researcher analyzes the definition, dimension, function, role, theory, characteristic, and design of Liberal Arts education. The researcher also found the similarities between Liberal Arts of UPJ with WOU, United States. The design of Liberal Arts curriculum is Core Curriculum.
