Abstract

This study focuses on directive speech acts. The types of speech acts that are often heard in the daily communication namely directive speech act. Directive speech acts used by the speaker to make the hearer or listener to do or do not something. The purposes of the study are to analyze the types of directive speech acts that are used in the “Justice” movie and to know the most frequently occurred directive speech acts in the movie itself. This research uses descriptive qualitative to analyze the data. The instrument of the study is the researcher herself. The researcher found the data from the “Justice” movie by Richard Gabai then identify and determine the types of directive speech acts, after that analyze the data to classified into those types of directive speech acts and show the most frequently used of directive speech acts. In analyzing the data the researcher uses Searle’s theory. The result of this study shows that there are 275 directive speech acts found in the “Justice” movie based on Searle’s theory. 61 utterances are included as command, 51 utterances are categorize into request, 16 utterances involve into permission, 12 utterances are included as prohibition, and 135 utterances are classified as question. In the result above, the types of directive speech acts that most frequently used in the “Justice” movie is question.
